I provide Individual, Marriage/Couples and Group Therapy.
Psychotherapy can help you live a more meaningful , satisfying and self-directed life. In fact, many clients say it is life giving.
A question I hear a lot is “why does my doctor want me to see a psychologist?” A new diagnosis of a serious illness, living with a chronic illness, a decline in physical abilities (or a fear of) or worsening of a long standing health condition may present emotional, spiritual and/or behavioral challenges. Psychotherapy can help you and may actually decrease some of your physical symptoms.
Your doctor may also refer you even if you have no health problems but are presenting with anxiety or depression. Remember, they are concerned about your whole life not just the physical.
While I am primarily interpersonal and insight oriented, I also utilize cognitive (where one learns how to change negative thinking) behavioral (where one learns new ways of behaving and responding to situations) therapies as appropriate.
I am a graduate of the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland so also use Gestalt techniques into my work. While I honor past experiences, I view them as important in relationship to the present. I am very comfortable incorporating a person’s faith and spirituality into treatment. I work with individuals (age five and up) as well as couples and families.
Research has shown a strong connection between the mind and the body. People who see a psychologist often have better outcomes than those that don’t. Learning the relaxation response helps you be able to calm both the mind and body.
I have extensive experience in helping people:
- who have chronic or terminal illnesses
- who have been sexually abused or raped in the distance past or recently
- who have acute and chronic signs of depression
- who experience anxiety and panic attacks
- who have difficulty communicating with their spouse or others
- who are struggling with their faith
